These are some observations, tips, and little things I've noticed as commander. This list of about 30 points is by no stretch complete, and may not even be completely accurate. Please add any comments or other observations you have. When time permits I will organize these into a full fledged article.
General:
- Commanders are most effective when 100% of their time is devoted to Command (in other words, Commanders should be hidden and in command mode 99% of the time.
- Commanders who join the battle lose more often then they win
- squad less individuals are out of communication and useless, they contribute very little to a team win 99% of the time concentrating on personal GP instead
- only have to click close to a radar blip on the command map to “spot” an enemy for team or squad
- Zoom should be used when dropping crates or artillery for accuracy
Strategies:
- Always be looking for action! (even if the squads are not following your orders)
- Always try to be ready as an attack squads make their move on an enemy base.
- possible scenario; Scan map for enemy forces first, Use Artillery to soften enemy base and Send UAV just before arrival showing remaining enemy, and be ready with supplies, drop the supplies just behind any armor, but with flag range if possible)
Artillery:
- fire is accurate within small area (aprox 200ft square maybe)
- blast effective through open doors or windows
- fire does not go through concrete (roof or wall)
- blast from ground does not reach up to “crane” height, direct hit req for snipers
- Blast does not penetrate tin roofed hanger style buildings.
- shells are deflected back up to sky by trees 15-20% of the time (might be specific trees, or a random effect – unclear – glitch/feature)
- tanks will survive artillery unless 1 or 2 *direct hits are achieved
- 2 or more tanks with engineers are virtually impervious to artillery fire
- 1 GP for each 4 kills with artillery (while you seem to get full punishment for team kills)
Scanning:
- Scan should be used every time it is idle, and Rambo style infantry should be spotted as should any convoys or attack squads (especially when approaching a base without any defense)
- Scan should be used before each UAV and or Artillery strike ensuring that the best target is selected.
UAV:
- UAV should always be running, unless you are preparing for an attack within the next 30 seconds to 1 minute
- UAV is the best way to get disobedient squads to go in the area you want (squads that do not listen tend to be self serving, so they follow the UAV)
- UAV is best used after a scan, this way the scan can find the flanking enemy, or show the attack squads what they are in for
Supplies:
- Supplies will kill a infantry player if dropped on their head
- Multiple supply crates rearm/repair/supply faster than individual crates
- Supplies should be dropped regularly at held bases where a squad is “camping” and setting up a defense.
- Zoom should be used whenever supplies are dropped to ensure accuracy (supplies are useless is the squad dies on route to get them)
Orders:
- If a squad or squads start to follow orders supply them often with crates and UAV
- If a squad calls for orders, send quickly and try to help unit with UAV/supply
- Repair and destroy orders are ignored 90% of the time.
- Defend orders tend to be ignored by all except squads asking for orders
- Squads that ask for orders tend also to be the better player/squads who for whatever trust in your Command abilities
- once a squad sees you are tending to them and actually watching them from above sending appropriate help and Artillery they often become attentive and responsive to orders
